How to connect a product test report to the item being bought

A test report may show an impressive result for a product that differs from the current quote. The report is only useful when its subject can be identified.

A field-level check

Match report number, sample description, model, material, revision, test method and date to the quoted item. Ask who selected the sample and whether changes occurred afterward. Keep the laboratory's stated scope in view.

Write down the exact field, the party that supplied the information, the original document or page, the date seen and the scope of the check. If a reviewer took an action, record that action rather than a general “verified” label. Reopen the source when the transaction or underlying document changes.

Where the inference stops

Do not infer batch-wide conformity from one tested sample. A report for a similar model is a lead for further testing, not proof of the current product.

A missing answer is a question to resolve, not permission to substitute a guess. Separate a statement by the supplier from a public record and from a documented human review. No source in this article proves a quality ranking or an existing buyer relationship.

What to record before deciding

Publish only the tested model and condition if source rights and accuracy allow. Otherwise keep a question in the buyer's file and avoid a generic “tested quality” badge.
